Saudi Arabia Work Visa Medical Requirements

Saudi Arabia requires a comprehensive medical examination for most work visa applicants. This is one of the most common visa categories for Kenyans seeking employment in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). Results are submitted through the Expatriate Health Requirements Center (EHRC, also known as Seha) electronic system or directly to the Saudi Embassy. Your employer or recruitment agent will advise on the exact submission route required.

Required Tests & Examinations

  • Complete physical examination (general health, cardiovascular, respiratory, vision)
  • HIV 1 & 2 antibody test
  • Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)
  • Hepatitis C antibody (Anti-HCV)
  • Syphilis serology (RPR/VDRL)
  • Complete blood count (CBC) and blood group
  • Chest X-ray (tuberculosis screening)
  • Urine analysis

Hajj & Umrah Vaccine Requirements

Pilgrims performing Hajj or Umrah must comply with Saudi Arabia's mandatory vaccination requirements. These are strictly enforced at Saudi ports of entry. Ensure your vaccines are administered and certified before departure.

Vaccine Status Notes
Meningococcal ACWY Mandatory Must be administered no more than 3 years before travel. Quadrivalent vaccine required (ACWY strains).
Yellow Fever Required (Kenya) Mandatory if arriving from a Yellow Fever endemic country. Kenya qualifies. Yellow Card required at entry.
Polio (OPV/IPV) Required (certain countries) Required for travelers from polio-affected countries. Confirm current requirements with Saudi Embassy.
Influenza Recommended Strongly recommended due to large gatherings during Hajj and Umrah
COVID-19 Recommended Full primary series recommended; boosters as appropriate

Important: The Meningococcal ACWY vaccination certificate must be valid and presented at the Saudi port of entry. Pilgrims without valid certificates may be vaccinated at the airport at their own expense or denied boarding by airlines.

Saudi Arabia — Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Saudi Arabia medical exam the same for all employers? +

Requirements can vary slightly by employer and visa category. Some employers require examinations through GAMCA (Gulf Approved Medical Centres Association) affiliated centres, while others accept exams processed directly through the EHRC (Expatriate Health Requirements Center) online system. Always confirm with your employer or recruitment agent which format is required before booking your appointment.

How long are Saudi medical exam results valid? +

Saudi Arabia medical exam results are generally valid for 3 months from the date of examination. Results submitted through the EHRC system are tracked electronically and linked to your visa application. Confirm the exact validity period with your employer or the Saudi Embassy, as this may vary.

Is meningococcal vaccine required for all Saudi Arabia travelers? +

Meningococcal ACWY vaccination is mandatory for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims and must be administered within 3 years of travel. For work visa and other visa categories, meningococcal vaccination is strongly recommended. Saudi port health authorities may require proof of vaccination upon arrival, particularly during the Hajj season when enforcement is stricter.

Do I need a Yellow Fever certificate for Saudi Arabia? +

Yes. Kenya is on Saudi Arabia's list of Yellow Fever endemic countries. A valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate (Yellow Card / ICVP) is required for all travelers entering Saudi Arabia from Kenya. CA Medlynks administers the Yellow Fever vaccine and issues the internationally recognized certificate at our Nairobi clinic.
